BODY SKIN:
- Keep the skin clean & dry.
- One bath per day. If you have dry skin or during winter season, you can have an evening sponge bath. Apply oil or moisturizing cream, twice daily immediately after bath when the skin is wet.
- Always change to fresh washed clothes during bedtime.
- Avoid sharing soaps, towels, clothes & bed.
- Use loose cotton clothes, change daily and iron the clothes before wearing them.
- Rinse the clothes properly, as left over detergents can be an irritant to the skin.
- Avoid using prickly heat powder, perfumes, deodorants, nail polish & other cosmetics if you have any skin allergy.
- Avoid using dettol for clothes, bathwater & for shaving, as it can be allergic & an irritant.
- Avoid using medicated soaps & perfumed soaps. Use simple ordinary soap.
- People with metal allergy should avoid using artificial jewelry.
- Keep the house clean, free of dust & insects as these sometimes can cause allergy of the skin. Prevent dust mites by wiping the house with wet cloth & by vacuum cleaning the house regularly.
- People with dust mite allergy should avoid using cotton mattress & carpets. Alternatively they can use Kurlon or Foam mattress. Vacuum clean the mattress or put it in sunlight regularly to avoid dust mites & insects. Keep the cupboard clean, avoid using dusty old clothes as it can trigger allergy.
- Avoid keeping pets, as it can transmit fungal or parasitic or viral infections, or it can aggravate Eczema, nasal allergy or asthma.
- Sometimes, food can cause allergic skin rash. If food is the cause, allergic rash should develop within 2-4 hrs after consumption of food, not after some days.
- Avoid scratching the skin as it will aggravate itching & cause secondary infection. Apply oil or cream whenever there is itching sensation or take an anti- histamine tablet.
- Avoid using unnecessary drugs, balms, topical ointments & creams etc. without a doctor’s prescription.
FACIAL SKIN:
Wash the face with mild cleanser or face-wash along with water 3 to 4 times/day.
- Avoid oily based cosmetics, oils, lotions, cream-day cream or night cream etc., as these creams & lotions can cause dark patches on face.
- Avoid scratching & squeezing of pimples.
- Avoid regular bleaching, facials, beauty packs, etc., especially if you have an oily skin or prone for pimples. They can also lead to dark patches on face.
- Avoid waxing the face as it can lead to pimples.
- Avoid using sticker bindi if you have allergic skin disorder as it can cause allergic rash or it can decolorize the skin.
- Avoid regular sun exposure as it causes excessive tanning & early facial wrinkling. Apply sunscreen lotions every 4-5 hrly. Cover the face with thick clothes (scarf or dupatta or sari) /cap /helmet / or black umbrella.
- Steam the face regularly especially in people with pimples & oily skin.
HAIR:
- Regularly shampoo the scalp hair with any ordinary shampoo, as it removes dandruff & keeps the hair clean. Shampoo will not cause cancer, or greying of the hair or hair fall.
- Avoid oil massage & excessive oiling the hair, especially in people with pimples, dandruff & oily scalp.
- Oiling the hair makes the hair soft and easy to comb. Few drops of coconut oil application weekly once or twice are sufficient. Oiling the hair will not make the hair black and thick.
- Avoid sharing caps / hair bands / combs/ helmet.
- Using helmet or cap will not cause hair loss.
- Avoid hot hair dryers & curlers. Avoid regular straightening the hairs or perming the hairs or ironing the hairs as it leads hair damage & hair fall.
- Keep the hair short & trim.
- Shaving the hair off from any part of the body will not increase thickness of hair or hair growth.
- Keep the comb clean & wash it regularly. Use a comb with widely spaced, blunt bristles. Comb gently & superficially, without injuring the roots of the hair.
GENITAL SKIN:
- Wash the genitals with any ordinary soap & water, twice daily (morning & night).
- Avoid using dettol to clean the genitals.
- Avoid casual sex & sex with unknown person.
- Have a faithful single sexual partner.
- Use a condom for safe sex.
- Wash genitals with soap & water after sexual intercourse.
- Use comfortable underwear, daily change and iron the underwear.
- Always wear the underwear after drying the skin.
HANDS & FEET SKIN :
- Keep the hands and feet clean and dry.
- Try to prevent children from playing with mud, dirt, etc., which is difficult. Otherwise wash the hands & feet with soap & water immediately after coming back from play.
- Avoid touching unknown chemicals, irritants & parthenium plants.
- People with hand eczema or allergy should avoid contact with soaps & detergents & use protective gloves while washing dishes or clothes.
- Use cotton socks, daily change the socks & shoes, & alternate the shoes.
- To use comfortable shoes (not too tight or loose), with low heels.
- Keep the shoes clean and dry.
- Air the feet often during the day. Avoid wearing the shoes continuously.
- People allergic to rubber, leathers, and plastic material should avoid these respective materials in shoes, chappals or watchstraps.
For a healthy skin, good hygiene & nutritious food is necessary, plenty of vegetables & fruits is a must.
